Special Olympics

When we began thinking about the types of organizations we wanted to connect with through our family foundation, we knew recreation, athletics, and community had to be at the core. We wanted to partner with an organization that would not only benefit from our financial support but also educate and inspire us, and our growing family, about the virtues of life. That said, it didn’t take long before we serendipitously connected with Special Olympics British Columbia (SOBC) through a friend.

In case you haven’t had the privilege of experiencing Special Olympics on a personal level, let us tell you—it’s an organization that will change your life and fill your heart in ways you never thought possible. Their vision is to use sport to open hearts and minds toward people with intellectual and physical

disabilities, but also to create inclusive communities across British Columbia and beyond.

Athletes are the heart of Special Olympics, and they come in all shapes and sizes. They are children, youth, adolescents, and adults living with intellectual disabilities, and through sport, they are finding success, joy, and friendship as part of the truly magical community that is Special Olympics. Most importantly, they’re also having a lot of fun along the way! We were fortunate enough to connect with our local chapter of Special Olympics (SOBC Kelowna) and have been able to participate in several of their programs and unique events!

We challenged our friend Keith of Wave Philanthropy to a game of floor hockey.  If our team won he agreed to donate $10,000 to the charity of our choice so we recruited athletes from Special Olympics in Kelowna and had a blast playing a game.
